A Generous Presence You Can Trust Me The Leader’s Dashboard
“Dip In” ~ Mark 1:9-12

How is it we learn to endure inner testing? Like it or not, the tests come! No, not the pass/fail or graded tests, but the testing of our spirit like metal is tested to expose and purify impurities. Jesus, too, was tested. Nothing but strength, courage, and grace was exposed as Jesus submitted Himself to this unyielding testing.

A Generous Presence

The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. …Generous inside and out,  true from start to finish. (John 1:14 - The Message)

Worship on the first Sunday of Advent got me hooked on a theme.

You Can Trust Me

Today’s leaders must be transformational leaders who lead out of a depth of character that has been intentionally nurtured and a baseline of trust that has been carefully built. It is from within a context of character and trustworthiness that a leader is given authority.

The Leader’s Dashboard

By: Major Joanne Holz, Director, School for Leadership Development

Are you a clock watcher??  There are certainly some occasions when we watch the clock and time drones on.  You are heading on to a big trip but have to finish work first; you are looking forward to a celebration and time seems to stand still; you are waiting for someone to come out of surgery or to overcome an illness and time marches ever so slowly.  Full Story

Musings From Mark 1:14

By: Major Joanne Holz, Director, School for Leadership Development

Mark may have been brief, crisp, and quick-paced as he wrote this Gospel but if we are to gain the benefit of the truths contained in this sacred writing, we can’t walk through it that way. Consider the brief, almost parenthetical note regarding John the Baptist: “Now after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee…..” WHOA!!! Slow down. John, the forerunner, way-maker, predecessor of the Son of Man, after all of his teaching and investment in his followers, finds himself thrown into jail! Let’s talk the human language of UNFAIR!!! What were they thinking??? What stirred his opponents’ hornets’ nests!!!??? Mark doesn’t seem to feel the need to explain. In a common phrase of our day “it is what it is.” So Mark moves on.

Nobody’s Perfect ~ But You Have to Be

By Major Clarence Bradbury, D.Min.

A simple comment can sometimes stop you dead in your tracks.  In October, as one by one the Chilean miners emerged from their underground cocoon where they were trapped for months, a CNN reporter focused on a man who was about to be greeted by two women.  One was the miner’s wife and the other, his secret lover.  The reporter concluded his commentary with “I guess nobody’s perfect”.  How true.  I’ve heard it countless times and I’ve used it far too often to excuse some failure on my part.  Full Story
