WHAT IS AOL@SLD?

The Academy of Leadership (AOL) at the School for Leadership Development (SLD) offers a research-based training curriculum for adult learners.  The AOL @ SLD curriculum contains training modules that integrate ethical behaviors and effective business practices with Biblical principles.  In this way, Christian leaders learn practical effective steps to live out their calling.

HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE IN THE TRAINING MODULES?

Typically, supervisors or the officer/s in charge in an Army unit will make contact with SLD for one or more of the AOL@SLD training modules to be delivered at their location with their leadership group or team.  Once the training has been completed, each member of the group/team who participated is then registered into the SLD database with their own individual record.  Each time the individual takes a training module through the Academy, it is logged into their record.  This allows the tracking of leadership development training both individually and collectively for Army units.  These records are easily accessible through SLD.

Note:  Individual leaders who feel they would benefit from participating in one or more of the AOL@SLD training modules should make contact with their direct supervisor for discussion.

WHERE DOES TRAINING TAKE PLACE?

Most often, AOL training takes place in an Army location near where participants live and work.  While the School for Leadership Development has offices located in the Metro Atlanta area there is “no brick and mortar school.”  Trained facilitators from SLD are sent out into the field to provide leadership training and development at the local location.  SLD facilitators are experienced facilitators who understand the Army context as well as the leadership challenges faced on a daily basis.

WHAT CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE TRAINING CURRICULUM?

Training modules are typically four hours in length and are designed as building blocks or bridges from one to another.  In this way training becomes more than just a stand-alone activity.  The training itself is lively and very interactive. Assessment tools allow participants to define their level of competency prior to the training. Evaluations are used to measure the outcomes of the training.  The video examples, along with individual and group activities, provide opportunities for the practice and application of the principles being taught.  Another intentional design element in the AOL curriculum is the “what’s next”, an action plan in which participants identify a current situation they are facing and plan for applying what they’ve learned.
